Post-Holiday Cleaning Tips And How To Tackle Them | Carpet, Rug And Upholstery Cleaning NY NJ and CT

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Jan 18, 2018 @ 02:49 PM

Holidays can make even the most rational person wish the man in the red suit had a magic potion with our name on it. With all the stress of cooking, preparation, and gifting, the last thing you want is to tackle is the mess left. If no one thought to give you a gift card for maid service, here are a few ways to handle post-holiday cleaning:

From spilled beverages to plates in the sink, it’s best to deal with messes as you go. While it might seem exhausting to clean as you go, it’s a lot less stressful than facing a mountain of dishes and no clean forks. Spills are less likely to become set-in stains if handled immediately.

AdobeStock_180114416.jpeg

However, there are always at least a few rug or carpet stains that magically appear after the holidays! You obviously want to treat any stains as soon as possible, but sometimes you don’t always notice them right away.

Like the carpets, upholstery can take a beating during the holidays from all of the use and abuse. The earlier you can treat the stains the better, so don’t leave this one for too long!

You will save yourself a lot of energy if you break down the tasks into manageable chunks. Remove the stress of post-holiday cleaning by deciding what must be done now and what can wait. Cleaning your kitchen must be done now, while making your guest bed with freshly laundered sheets can probably wait.

And although, we do try to keep up with the basic bathroom cleaning {especially in the guest bathrooms!} over the holidays, they will definitely be in need of a good deep cleaning afterwards. Scrub the tile in your shower and bath, wipe down the mirrors and the sink, wash the towels, mop the floors, and clean the toilet.

But, seriously. Holiday gatherings are all about togetherness and enjoyment of the good times. So, the last tip is this: ask for the help of a professional! Treat yourself and your family to a clean house and a relaxed environment when they next get home. That leaves time for you to get your not-so-New-Years-resolutions set into motion.

From The Outhouse Back To The Penthouse

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Fri, Dec 15, 2017 @ 01:27 PM

This modern handmade Bamboo Silk Rug 8-6 x 11-4 came into us for cleaning. Needless to say we were completely blown away by the condition it was in.

IMG_5876.jpg

We called the owner and discussed the problems and told him we would do our best but not to expect “miracles”. The client said he completely understood and was aware of the condition and gave us the okay to proceed.

IMG_5878.jpg
Never one to back down from a challenge, we got to work on this rug and after several cleanings and grooming of the pile we were very proud of the final out come.

IMG_6001.jpgIMG_6002.jpg

That’s why when we get rugs in a similar condition we like to say that we were able to take this rug from the OUTHOUSE and bring it back to the PENTHOUSE.

Please never wait this long to have us clean your valuable rugs and carpets!!

Bombardier Global Business Jet Upholstered Furniture, Leather And Carpet Cleaning Project | December 2017

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Dec 07, 2017 @ 04:14 PM

We were hired to clean the carpeting, matts, leather and UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE in this Beautiful Bombardier Global Business Jet. It is one of the largest business jets made.

image001.jpg

The trick was to schedule a time when the jet wasn’t busy flying around the world.  The carpet is made of a blend of wool and silk and had to be hand cleaned.

image002.jpg

The leather seats were hand clean and conditioned as well as the UPHOLSTERED COUCHES.

image002 (1).jpg

After the cleaning was performed we came back the next day and applied a specialty stain protection formula that has been approved for the aeronautical industry by the Boeing Company.

The work RUG RENOVATING performed was embraced by the airplane managers and the next day the plane was flying off to another destination.

Preparing Your Home For The Holidays | Professional Upholstery, Carpet And Rug Cleaning NYC And Surrounding Areas

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Oct 19, 2017 @ 02:36 PM

Whether your guests are staying just for the day or will be overnight visitors, this holiday cleaning checklist will help make your home as inviting and comfortable as possible.

AdobeStock_3414263.jpegEntrance
Make sure all outdoor lighting is functioning properly and is turned on when it is dark. Another important precaution to ensure your guest’s safety.
Establish a place to collect all warm weather apparel, including boots. Add extra hangers to your coat closet or designate a room to collect these. You should also consider adding an extra doormat for those wet boots and have your rugs professionally cleaned. If you plan for this ahead of time your entrance won’t become a cluttered mess.

Living Area
This area gets a lot of traffic.  It is a good time to schedule a professional carpet and upholstery cleaning before your guests arrive. Clean the windows so that guests can clearly see your outside decorations.

Bathrooms
If the tile looks dingy, replacing it or even new grout can give a fresh look to a bathroom. Make sure the bathroom fan and window are in operating condition. Ventilation is an important part of keeping your bathroom clean and mildew-free.
Make sure you have enough guest bath and/or hand towels. Consider special towels with a holiday theme to keep with the spirit of the season.

AdobeStock_47523261.jpegKitchen
The kitchen has become an essential room for entertaining with the popularity and ease of serving food buffet style. To provide more space, try installing appliances under countertops or consider investing in a kitchen island. Check the condition of the countertops, cabinets, and appliances. Replacing the appliances can make a huge difference when you’re preparing meals for large groups.

Guest rooms
Make sure the guest beds have fresh linens. Clear some closet space or a drawer to make your guests feel more at home. No one likes to live out of a suitcase.
Provide your guests with a bedside clock and reading lamp. Not everyone goes to sleep or wakes at the same time.

techs.pngGetting your carpet cleaned freshens up your home, helps carpet last longer and creates a healthier environment.  This video explains how you can help to get your best carpet cleaning job.

When RUG RENOVATING's technicians arrive at your home or office they will pre-spot the problem areas, move the furniture that can be moved, thoroughly clean the carpet, replace the furniture to its original location, and put foil pads under the legs of the furniture to protect the carpet.

This is our normal on-site cleaning process. It should take approximately six to twelve hours for the carpet to dry. We will put paper down in areas that you need to walk on after cleaning.

Spring is almost here, which means it’s time to give your house a GOOD SCRUBBING. Not sure where to start? Here are six tips and tricks to help make spring cleaning a breeze.

  • Keep a daily task sheet. Because the seasons change regularly, your house cleaning will also change. Create and stick with a daily cleaning schedule, so you don’t get overwhelmed when it comes time to deep clean your house.
  • Maintain a clean bathroom and kitchen. These areas should be a top priority because, typically, this is where people spend most of their time. This will also allow you to focus on other areas of the house, such as ceilings and closets, that may need a more thorough cleaning job.
  • Get the kids to help. Little kids love to help. Give them a few baby wipes to wipe down shelves and watch that dust disappear.
  • Start with your windows. Clean the inside and outside of all your windows. Once the light shines into your house, you will be able to see what areas you missed during the wintertime.
  • Change your filters often. If you are running an AC system through your house, you need to change the filters in the spring and fall. This will help YOU REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF DUST PARTICLES that build up in your home.

What Stinks and How to Get Rid of It

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Fri, Feb 12, 2016 @ 11:53 AM

yellow-labrador-retriever-750098_1280.jpg

Whether it be from a pet, dirt, smoke, mildew, or other odor, you need to:

  • Prevent it
  • Identify it
  • Fix it

Before it’s too late!

Rug and carpet odors can come from a variety of sources and often we might not notice them until they get unbearable and we don’t know what to do about it! Here are a few tips to prevent odors from developing, identify them if they occur and what steps to take in order to eliminate them.

Prevent it:

Sometimes it is inevitable, life happens and your rug ends up with a mysterious odor but taking steps to prevent it can save headaches later. Be careful for food or drinks on the counters and tables because a small spill can contribute to causing an odor on your rug or carpet. If there happens to be a spill make sure you clean it as soon as possible to avoid left over residue that could cause harmful bacteria to grow.

If you recently encountered water damage, a pipe leakage, indoor flooding or any type of water damage your rug or carpet can be severely affected if not cared for properly. You must take the necessary steps to ensure your rug is fully dried. Water left in the rug can cause bacteria to grow and can lead to mold or mildew.

This is also true for snow this time of year - make sure that you are not leaving your rug or carpet wet from the snow that is coming in from the outside!

If you have a pet they can cause many of the odors as well. A precaution you can take is to clean any mud or dirt that may be on your pet's paws after outdoor activities. If your pet has had an accident, take the necessary steps to thoroughly clean the soiled areas to avoid bacteria growth which causes unwanted odors.

Identify it:

It can be difficult to identify an odor, but through process of elimination, you can have an idea of what the odor might be. Ask yourselves these questions, to have an idea of what might be causing a certain odor.

Do you have pets?

Are they allowed around the carpeted area?

After outdoor activities do they come in contact with a rug or carpet?

Over time has your pet had accidents on the rug or carpet?

No pets-

Was there any food or beverage that spilled on the rug or carpet?

How long was it there for?

How well was it cleaned up?

Do you have children who might walk into carpeted areas with their sneakers on?

Was there any water or smoke damage that might have occurred near or on the rug or carpet?

What was done to dry up the water?

Fix it:

Carpets and rugs capture odors and hold onto them. However, these odors can be removed, and the time and effort will depend largely on the type and intensity of the odor. If the odor is strong, be prepared to have an expert spend some time removing the odors from your carpet or rug. When possible, adding fresh air always helps to expedite the process.

Tweeds Rug and Carpet Cleaning can gently and safely eliminate most offensive odors caused by mildew, pets, smoke and other causes. If your rugs have an odor problem, ask us about our cleaning and deodorizing processes.

Homemade Carpet Cleaning Solutions

Posted by Paul Iskyan on Thu, Jul 31, 2014 @ 01:22 PM

pt02_brn_brdlm_liv
We’ve all accidently spilled drinks on our carpets, or stained them by tracking dirt in from outside. What most of us haven’t done, however, is buy a professional carpet cleaning solution to use in these situations. Fortunately, you might not have to buy anything at all to get your carpet looking like new again. You can make your own homemade carpet cleaning solution with a few household items. Here are a few ways to get started:

Synthetic Carpet Cleaners
Note: Dip a white cloth into these solutions and apply to the stain. Never pour the solutions directly onto carpeting.
  • Detergent solution: Mix 1/4 teaspoon of a translucent liquid dishwashing detergent, such as Dawn or Joy, into one cup of lukewarm water.
  • Vinegar solution: Mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups of water.
  • Solvent solution: Use an oil solvent. Or substitute nail-polish remover, such as Cutex Quick & Gentle non-acetone polish remover.
  • Ammonia solution: Mix one tablespoon of clear household ammonia with 1/2 cup of lukewarm water.
  Other Solutions
  • Baking soda works to remove pet stains. Just sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over the soiled section, and then let it sit for a couple hours before vacuuming.
  • Club soda also works well, but may have to be applied with a cleaning solution several times before a stain is removed. Start by blotting the section before pouring the club soda over it. Once the solution has stopped fizzing, immediately blot the spot again, repeating as necessary.
  • Diluted bleach can help too. Just use 10 parts water to one part bleach. Spray the solution on the stain, and then let it sit for 15 seconds before thoroughly rinsing the area with warm water. If you can still see the stain, repeat the process until the spot is gone.
Considering these homemade stain remedies is a great way to save money!
If these solutions do not work for your stains or if you would be more comfortable allowing professionals to handle this for you, call us anytime!
